Analysis

The Anxiety Divergence: 22.5% vs. 51.2%

The most striking finding is the gap in Anxiety sector activation. Trump's UNGA address activated Anxiety at 51.2% — more than double Obama's 22.5%. Both speeches address global threats, but through different cognitive architectures. Trump's language names adversaries directly and frames the world as actively hostile. Obama's language frames challenges as systemic and structural. NOUS correctly identified both: Trump's language expresses anxiety about the world with certainty about oneself; Obama's expresses concern about the world with deliberation about the path forward.

Neurocognitive: Complexity of Thought

Obama's Neurocognitive sector activated at 18.0%, far above Trump's 2.8% and Lincoln's 10.0%. This measures the presence of linguistic markers associated with complex cognitive processing: nested clauses, conditional reasoning, multi-variable analysis, and abstract conceptualization. Obama's prose branches, qualifies, and layers conditions. Trump's sentences are structurally simpler by design, which is why his Neurocognitive activation is low and his Optimal is high: the directness that signals executive confidence produces minimal activation in the complexity sector.

All Three Are STUCK

Every presidential address produced a STUCK integration pattern. This is a structural feature of political rhetoric. Presidential speeches identify challenges and call for action but do not resolve. They cannot. The problems they describe are ongoing. NOUS correctly detected that none of these texts move from conflict to resolution — and scored accordingly.

Coherence: All Highly Organized

Coherence clustered tightly: Lincoln 0.77, Obama 0.74, Trump 0.73. All well above any threshold for disordered thinking. The key finding is that all three presidents produced highly coherent cognitive signatures despite radically different emotional architectures. Coherence measures structural organization, not emotional content.

NOST estimates cognitive states from linguistic output. It is a theoretical framework under peer review, not an established clinical diagnostic standard.
