Five Key Findings

Finding 1: The Beverly Index Separates the Groups

Presidents: 58–66. Mass murderers: 72–100. No overlap. The platform produces a categorically different cognitive health reading for individuals with documented psychopathology versus neurotypical political rhetoric.

Finding 2: Integration Shifts from STUCK to HYPER

All three presidents were STUCK — language that identifies problems but doesn't resolve. Kaczynski and Breivik are both HYPER — language that moves rapidly across topics with elevated energy, starting and abandoning integration attempts. This is the linguistic signature of a mind that can't stop.

Finding 3: The Personality Sector Explodes

Presidents: 6.5–11.1%. Kaczynski: 42.8%. Breivik: 43.4%. The single largest sector divergence in the entire dataset. NOUS detected identity rigidity, black-and-white framing, and self-referential intensity at levels completely absent from political rhetoric.

Finding 4: Optimal Collapses

Presidents: 14–34%. All three mass murderers: 7–11%. The language of executive confidence, goal-directed reasoning, and adaptive problem-solving virtually disappears.

Finding 5: The Psychotic Sector Is Surprisingly Low

This is the most scientifically interesting finding. Kaczynski 8.8%, Breivik 8.1%, Rodger 19.8%. All three have documented psychiatric histories involving psychotic features, yet the Psychotic sector didn't dramatically elevate. This is because the Psychotic sector measures thought disorder — and all three manifestos are superficially coherent. The pathology shows up in Personality, Captivity, and the HYPER pattern, not in Psychotic. This distinction — between what someone thinks and how they organize their thinking — is exactly the kind of nuance a crude sentiment analysis tool would miss entirely.

This is discriminant validity. The instrument measures what it claims to measure. And the measurement works.

NOST estimates cognitive states from linguistic output. It is a theoretical framework under peer review, not an established clinical diagnostic standard. All sector activations, probability scores, and Beverly Index values reported in these case studies are the unmodified output of the NOUS platform. No values have been adjusted, rounded, or estimated by the author.
